TMD Friction honoured for excellent supply chain management – TEMOT International presents award for outstanding delivery performance

Leverkusen, 17 June 2022 Global friction specialist, TMD Friction, has been recognised by TEMOT International for its outstanding supply chain management in 2021 at the Annual Meeting & Executive Suppliers’ Event in Munich (12-15 June).

TEMOT International, a cooperation of the world’s leading distributors in the automotive aftermarket, regularly recognises outstanding performance of its suppliers against numerous supply chain criteria. TMD Friction impressed the judges in several categories, including customer service, reliability, flexibility, responsiveness and adaptability to changing and challenging market conditions.

The prestigious “Supplier of the Year” award in the Supply Chain Management category demonstrated TMD Friction’s significant contribution to the success of its customers’ business through intelligent, state-of-the-art and reliable supply chain and logistics solutions, even in special times of crisis with persistent global supply chain problems.

As part of the supplier evaluation, the availability of goods has a particularly high weighting for TEMOT International, as it is one of the critical success factors in the spare parts market. TMD Friction was commended for its continuous work in evolving and optimising processes for supplying its customers with quality braking products across all its brands.

Clement de Valon, Executive Vice President in the Independent Aftermarket (IAM) of TMD Friction, said: “Even in the crisis year of 2021, we deliberately focused on strategic investments in the area of supply chain management, with the aim of further increasing the level of digitalisation, reliability and sustainability of our supply chains. As a result, we have succeeded in maintaining our excellent delivery performance to more than 80 TEMOT shareholders operating worldwide, and in some cases even expanding it further.

We are very pleased to have received the Special Recognition Award from TEMOT International in the Supply Chain category. This award also reflects the very good relationship with TEMOT as a valued partner.”

One success factor is the European central warehouse in Leverkusen-Hitdorf, which has significantly increased its capacity in recent years, and has been equipped with state-of-the-art digital logistics systems. In addition to investments in inventory and technology, staff has also been increased and further qualified, contrary to the general trend.

TMD Friction emerging so strongly from the difficult “Coronavirus year” in 2021 is due to the continuous investments in intelligent, digital and sustainable warehouse logistics. This includes a new route optimisation and replenishment strategy in the SAP EWM warehouse management system, achieving an impressive 30% route optimisations. As a result, these changes led to considerable increases in efficiency and flexibility.

Christian Stange, Vice President Global Supply Chain Management in the Independent Aftermarket at TMD Friction and Managing Director of TMD Friction Services GmbH, said: “We have strengthened our position in the areas of packaging automation, process engineering and import and export administration. This was put to the test at the height of the pandemic, with our effective staff rotation system proving its worth. The central warehouse was not closed for one day due to Coronavirus, meaning we were able to deliver at any time. The award honours our great efforts and shows that we have taken the right path. We want to continue this journey in the future and relieve our customers of any problems through smooth logistics processes.”

The friction specialist has a seamlessly functioning global production and supply chain network, and a very sophisticated supplier management system, combined with state-of-the-art manufacturing and logistics capacities in Europe. All of this ensures excellent reliability, speed of transport and high-quality manufacturing via a sustainable supply chain that meets strict environmental standards.

TMD Friction has been working with TEMOT International for many years and has the rank of Associated Supplier. In 2019, the manufacturer was also awarded for special aftermarket support in the areas of service, product quality and pricing.
